Reconstruction and Expansion of Ksaver Šandor Gjalski Elementary School
Grad Zagreb / 2007. - 2022. / Zoran Boševski / Boris Fiolić / Željko Golubić
About project
The Ksaver Šandor Gjalski Primary School was built in 1961, designed by architect Željko Žlof. The project originated from a first-prize-winning competition work in 2007, aiming to reconstruct the existing school and add four classrooms, a library, and a double gymnasium with ancillary facilities. Situated on a steep site, the extension integrates with the existing school and is partially embedded into the terrain. The spatial logic of the original school is maintained, organizing the new program around atriums, skylights and courtyards to create a contemporary educational space.
