Apartment Interior in Zagreb’s Upper Town Šuflaj House
Zagreb / 2016. / Vedrana Ergić
About project
The apartment interior in a 19th-century house, protected as a cultural heritage asset, represents a contemporary intervention in a sensitive historical environment. Design decisions preserved the existing typology with enfilades, minimally intervening to unify them into a single overlapping zone for daily activities. An open plan is juxtaposed by a utilitarian cube, accented by design as a new element with a mirrored envelope. The interplay between restored original wall and ceiling paintings and new layers merges
identities from different eras, forming a new authenticity.
