Studies on the Architecture of Synagogues in Croatia – Selected Papers

About project

This monograph of the chrestomathic genre compiles around 40 key studies by the author on synagogue architecture, a largely unknown and greatly destroyed segment of Jewish heritage in Croatia. Urban voids where synagogues once stood (such as the plot in Praška Street, Zagreb) represent a specific reuse potential for the memory of the lost, along with a few remaining synagogues that are neglected and lack adequate functions to restore their dignity and presence in the urban fabric.

About authors

Zlatko Karač (Vukovar, 1961) earned his degree and doctorate at the Faculty of Architecture in Zagreb, where he is now a tenured professor. He focuses on the history of Croatian architecture and urbanism and the preservation of architectural heritage, particularly through urban planning.
