Street Life
Tallinn / 2022. / Irena Bakić / Mirna Udovčić
About project
The project site is the sleepy suburb of Laagna, dominated by Khrushchyovka buildings. Wild rooftop gardens for pollinators contrast with the strictly controlled environment. Parking spaces are relocated to a new central megastructure, connecting the two halves of the neighborhood separated by roads. The freed-up street territory gains metabolism and identity: it becomes a space for exchange, food production, and socializing. Objects are recycled into playful pavilions. Greenhouses appear everywhere, and streetlights, now hacked for plant growth.
