About project
The conceptual design for the restoration of the Austro-Hungarian coastal artillery battery Giacone on Veliki Brijun Island focuses primarily on designing the perception of the space by acknowledging existing ambiences rather than adding a new material layer in the form of construction. Guided by the notion that ruins evoke a reversal in relation of human spirit and nature, the project approaches the area through the dialectical relationship between nature and the remnants of human presence—of what has remained.
