Revitalization of the KPK Swimming Pool

Since 1945, the outdoor KPK swimming pool has symbolized gathering and community. The concrete breakwater structure lost its function with the construction of a new indoor swimming pool. The intervention affirms the existing facility in order to create new regimes of use. The summer-winter cycle composes natural and social dynamics. At street level, the space opens up as a water square with a vertical sunbathing terrace, beneath which lies a dense network of thermal baths. The atmosphere is defined by the symbiosis of the environment and built framework. As time changes, so does space.
