Design of Matulji Town Center

About project

Matulji town center lacks identity and focus. A key intervention not outlined in the competition brief involves the removal of the 'Graditelj' house. By uniting fragmented sections of the square and refocusing the area, a true center with a new identity emerges. Into the emptied, topographically distinct space, geometrized planes are imprinted. The square is a rectangular horizontal surface for multi-use, while the balcony is a triangular inclined plane, serving as a resting spot, viewing platform, and roof over a hidden house (compensating for the removed 'Graditelji').

About authors

Ivana Ergić focuses on residential architecture and questioning traditional boundaries of architectural practice. Petar Mišković is an architect and professor at the Faculty of Architecture in Zagreb, specializing in small and experimental buildings, residential, and community projects.
