Astronomical Observatory Trebević
Sarajevo / 2019./2020. / Ivan Mostahinić
About project
The former observatory on Trebević consisted of an Austro-Hungarian tower, which is retained, and a newer structure that is removed. The retained walls of the tower become the inner facade of the newly designed observatory—the tower as an atrium of the new building. The roof is designed sculpturally, like a canvas suspended between two massive walls—the new and the old facades. On the ground floor, the tower is perceived as a whole body, while on the upper floor it serves solely as a light source. Vertical communications are placed at the boundary between the new and the old, in the turrets.
