Hotel in Quarry

About project

Years of excavation have given the quarry a kind of supernatural sculptural quality. The project's core idea was to embed architecture into this context with minimal impact. As one moves through the hotel, unique spatial sensations develop. At times, the entirety of the quarry is visible; at others, a profound sense of isolation prevails. The building is designed as a self-sustaining system of cascading underground tunnels descending from the top to the bottom.
