(Too) Large Bathhouse

Labin / 2023. / Noel Bucul

(Too) Large Bathhouse

About project

The Pijacal mining complex, including the Veliko Kupatilo (Large Bathhouse), symbolizes Labin, a city renowned for its mining heritage. Abandoned after the mines were closed, the bathhouse is treated as a found mining artifact, akin to a cave. In summer, the building maintains a pleasant microclimate, providing shelter from the heat. In winter, the structure "shrinks" along with the surrounding town. By stretching a canvas, the usable volume is reduced, making it easier to heat. The canvas becomes a shelter from the cold.
