City Parking at Former MTČ Factory Site
Čakovec / 2024. / Nikola Toplek
About project
The demolished factory site is reclaimed as a mark in the urban fabric. The existing void is covered with a pattern of asphalt and cobblestone, derived from a 45° organization of parking spaces. This creates an artificial topography where the parking lot transforms into a square and a park. At the center, a sloped plane rises at a 6% incline. When cleared of vehicles, it serves as an oversized canopy or bleacher—an activator. Occasional flooding of the adjacent lake is emphasized by channeling rainwater collected on the parking lot.
