Transformation of the Summer Stage, Opatija
Opatija / 2011. / Vjera Bakić / Matthias Kulstrunk
About project
Located in the contact zone between Opatija’s Angiolina Park and the sea, the summer stage was built in 1957 based on N. Šegvić’s design. Its stone walls enclose the stage and audience area, creating a unique open-air scenic ambiance. To continue the tradition of hosting music festivals regardless of weather conditions, the stage and seating area are covered with retractable roofs—arched steel constructions with stretched textile membranes. The lightness of the new roofs contrasts with the voluminosity of the existing walls.
